Outfit of the Day: Chilly Spring Day

The last OOTD photos taken before my closet doors were removed to start the renovation of our master suite.  Fingers crossed for better lighting soon!

Anyway, my first day back in the office after spring break was strictly a management-only day of meetings and trainings.  Not necessarily something that required a super professional dress code, but on the days when there are no kids in the building, I usually like to take advantage of being able to wear heels and pendant necklaces.

These pants were the inspiration for my visit to Old Navy a few weeks ago; they're skinny, stretchy, black pixie pants that fit beautifully and are a nice alternative to jeans for work days.  Pro-tip: the tag says to hang dry - I learned that that is more than just a suggestion.  I laid them over my drying rack the first time I washed them, and there were weird creases just below the waist and right around the knees.  They're also not completely fitted to my leg, so any boots taller than my beloved Chinese Laundry ankle booties give that weird bunching around the knees and just look silly.

The top was a TJ Maxx find well over a year ago.  I bought it a size up because I tend to like that looser, flowy-er look paired with a slimmer pant.  The mint cami underneath came from Old Navy.

My husband said that I shouldn't hold the camera in front of my face anymore...

As for jewelry, I broke out an old Lia Sophia necklace that I'd never actually worn before (left over from my days selling jewelry) and my favorite go-to silver disc earrings sprinkled with tiny crystals.

Outfit of the Day: Parent Conferences

Yesterday was a bit of a bear; I had a full day of my last round of progress report conferences for this quarter, a quick drink with my staff to celebrate the end of said conferences, all followed by dinner with some friends at a semi-nice restaurant in downtown Portland.

To sum up, I needed an outfit that could pull triple duty.  My everyday wardrobe at work is pretty professional/casual.  Comfort and ease of movement is not only acceptable, it's recommended when working with young children in a therapy center setting.  Jeans are definitely a staple and it's not uncommon on my sleepier mornings to occasionally settle for a nice hoodie and my well-worn Chuck Taylors.

Not so on conference days.

To preface, I love pairing new outfit pieces together and taking inspiration from Pinterest (maybe frequently spending my lunch break lazily scrolling through Pinterest...), so conference days, when I'm not providing direct service to kiddos, are my days to try out new looks and make a little extra effort.  This is the part of conference days that I love (the 8 hours of meetings with parents, not so much).

This particular outfit is an oldie-but-goodie; I've had all the pieces for quite some time now, and have worn them all together in the not so distant past.  As it turns out, however, it's not dissimilar to a few outfits I've pinned recently (herehere and here).

Top: H&M (I'm not quite sure if it's exactly designed to be a dress or a shirt, so I generally throw a pair of leggings under it and call it a day)
Sweater: Gap
Boots: Bare Traps (Two-tone leather makes me swoon)
Belt: Target
Leggings: Old Navy (they might be a serious contender for the best reasonably-priced leggings out there)
Necklace: lia sophia
